ClaimUnknownFunds is run by Rhyes Felix, an asset recovery consultant who works with Texas property owners, heirs, and their families to identify and recover excess proceeds held by county courts after tax foreclosure sales.

We are not a law firm. When a case moves forward, the actual court petition is filed by a licensed Texas attorney, and every agreement is reviewed by a judge before any money is released. Our role is to find the claim, verify who is entitled to it, gather the paperwork, and manage the process from first contact to payout.

A real case, with names removed

The details below are from a real completed case in Fort Bend County. We have removed the claimant's name and any court document identifiers to protect their privacy. The dollar figures, county, and timeline are accurate.

Timeline

1. The tax sale. The property sold at a Fort Bend County tax foreclosure auction in 2023 for more than what was owed, and the excess proceeds were deposited with the district clerk shortly after.
2. We made contact. We reached out to the person entitled to claim the funds, with documentation of the sale and the amount held by the court.
3. We verified the claim. Establishing who was legally entitled to claim the funds took some work. Once that was resolved, we put a written agreement in place and arranged for a mobile notary to handle the signing.
4. Our attorney filed the petition. A licensed Texas attorney filed the petition asking the court to release the funds under the agreement.
5. The court approved it. The judge reviewed and approved the agreement.
6. Funds were released. The claimant received their payout in 2025, about 3.5 months after we first made contact.
